Synopsis

Port Angeles, Washington is the stage for the largest dam removal in American history. In the early 20th century, Thomas Aldwell dammed the Elwha River with the currency of ambition, will, timing and money—the same ingredients that have made the river free again in the 21st century. Behind the bulldozers and the dynamite is a century-long political and economic saga rooted in competing ideas about the very purpose and meaning of rivers.
